Trail and running
at Camping de L’Océan on Belle-Ile-en-Mer in Morbihan
The Belle-Ile trail
If you are a fan of nature trails with a sea view, the Belle-Ile trail is for you! For more information visit the website https://www.belle-ile-en-trail.com/
The GR 34 goes all the way around Belle-Ile and has a total of 81 km with a cumulative elevation gain of 2,000 metres. This long-distance trail is the venue for a biennial trail competition in September during even-numbered years.
This race is a great meeting place for runners who, over the course of a weekend, make the GR34 their playground.
You can choose between different distances depending on your level:
- The complete Tour de Belle Ile (81 kms): The Ultra des Vagues
- The ½ Tour de Belle Ile (45 kms): The Ponant trail
- The Jean-No: 32 kms
- The Palantine: 19 kms
- The Semaphore Race: 11 kms
Registrations are made in groups or individually in December and January on the website https://www.belle-ile-en-trail.com/. The great specificity of this race is that the selection of runners is drawn at random, as there are many more applicants than places available.
You can also volunteer during the race to help bring this event to life. The work of the volunteers is obviously essential to the smooth running of the trail. They help at supply points, safety points or the distribution of numbers.
For your stay
If you’re taking part in this trail on your own, with friends or with your family, you’ll need accommodation for the whole weekend, from Friday evening to Sunday.
Our campsite being the closest to Le Palais, you will have easy access to the starting point and the registration place on foot (about 15 minutes from the campsite). As soon as you arrive at the dock, we offer you a luggage service so that you can have a ‘lighter’ journey to the campsite. All types of accommodation available on our campsite are detailed on our website. You’ll be sure to find the option that suits you, the number of people travelling with you and your budget.
Please take note of this event, as the campsite will fill up very quickly, as will all the accommodation facilities in Belle-Ile. Remember to book as soon as you have confirmation that your registration is actually valid after the result of the draw.
The campsite restaurant team will be available to provide a variety of catering options catering to different preferences and reservations, ensuring you can all enjoy the event.
Getting to the island
Do not hesitate to consult our dedicated page How to get to the island.
For the crossing, please be aware that the Océane company offers specific deals for runners during this event, which can be checked on their website.
Running outside the official trail
For fun and training, you can run all year round outside of the official biennial race. At your own pace and by organising yourself, you can set your own challenges.
Obviously you will have to share the hiking trails with all the other runners and walkers.
Your stay at Camping l’Océan will combine relaxation and sporting activities.
